First off, I love this film. It's genius from start to finish. A few of my friends watched it and didn't like it for its at times peculiar and fast plot line as you mentioned, however I still find it a great watch. Brendan's staccato delivery is very reminiscent of Bogart and the visuals are incredibly well thought out, updating noir genre and bringing it to a modern audience and particularly the high school audience. I like how the film only follows the students and people their age. the only adults in the film are the principal and the pin's mum which is an interesting as it focuses the film on the drug youth culture, almost picturing it as another world devoid of adults and anyone not involved in the underground sub culture.

Interestingly Rian Johnson's cousin was a student in Bounemouth when he created the score and used simple kitchen utensils and modified instruments to experiment with sounds and create what is a brilliant and unique score

An must have for anyone who loves alternative cinema and noir.
