I’ve got a real mixed bunch for you guys this week, from acoustic loveliness, to Sri Lankan angriness and everything in between makes up this week’s Auditory Pleasures.
Space Odyssey, initially known as There’s Space For Ol Dat I See, spells the comeback of the usually upbeat M.I.A. Space Odyssey demonstrates a more laid back feeling with dreamy backing and lyrics throughout. The track, produced by Rusko, is in reply to a recent New York Times article which held her place of origin, Sri Lanka, in a poor light. The track isn’t the most compelling upon first it’s first hearing, but after numerous plays you’ll come to appreciate the subtleness of it all.
Summer Camp are still managing to keep their identities way under the radar, not much is known other than the fact these guys Swedish and currently reside in London. Was It Worth It is a serene track which feels nostalgic and carefree. The lyrics however paint a completely different picture, speaking of infidelity and sadness. It’s an odd combination, not often you hear such a depressing subject matter combined with a relaxing track.
As with every album released these day, One Life Stand leaked. I haven’t managed to listen to the album in it’s entirety as of yet but have head snippets. The track which has had the most impact on me so far comes in the form of Thieves In The Night, the opening track to the new album. And what an opening, building up from a single thud to an immensely catchy electronic beat and vocals. Thieves In The Night wont be the next Over And Over but it will hopefully prove a good indication of what else to expect from One Life Stand.

Dirty Projectors took everyone by surprise this week by releasing a 7″ single version of Ascending Melody, a track taken from their critically acclaimed album Bitte Orca. The single features Emblem Of The World, a brand new track, as a b-side. Emblem Of The World is typical Dirty Projectors, featuring female vocals, sparse yet layered backing music and a quaint sound only offered by one of the most original acts around right now.
