The Vans Warped Tour is a THE staple of many an American teens summer, the traveling music festival crosses the entire country as busloads of bands and stage hands lose sleep, get sunburnt and party until their livers give in. Embracing a powerful, unifying ethic created by its founder Kevin Lyman, the Vans Warped Tour has grown and prospered over the last 17 years, meanwhile the music industry itself imploded and continues to sift through the rubble in search of a new way forward. Along the way, Warped has provided a launching pad for a dizzying array of talent, from Green Day and Blink 182 to Ice-T, Eminem, Deftones and No Doubt, along with perennial punk legends such as Pennywise, Bouncing Souls and Bad Religion.
With more than 300 hours of film shot during the 2010 tour, No Room For Rockstars documents the ups and downs of the tour, from bands playing in the parking lot trying to get noticed, kids selling cd’s just to stay on the tour and the pile of personalities that make up Warped’s modern day travelling circus.
Directed by skate legend Stacey Peralta who brought us the critically acclaimed Dogtown & Z-boys, No Room For Rockstars hits DVD on May 15th and is screening in selected theatres across the US now. For more info visit noroomforrockstars.com.
