New Blood: Ringo Deathstarr

Ringo Deathstarr hail from Austin, Texas they formed back in 2007, brought together by their love of bands such as The Cure, The Smiths, Fugazi and The Velvet Underground. They have previously released a batch of singles on both sides of the Atlantic and in Japan – a self titled EP in 2007 and most recently, in 2009, a brace of 7”s in the States, ‘You Don’t Listen’ & ‘In Love’, not to mention a 9-track Japanese mini-album, the excellent ‘Sparkler’.

The band are about to drop their début full length Colour Trip. It’s sound is a scuzzy mix of dirty fuzz, lo-fi noise and alternating vocals that bob & weave fluidly over the heady sound scape. It recalls Strawberry Wine era My Bloody Valentine and revives shoegaze in a wholly unique way. Recorded at The Bubble in their native Austin in the spring of 2010, the 11-track album produced by Computerboy, is set to cement the band as force to be reckoned with.

Take one cup of Jesus & The Mary Chain, mix it with a pinch of Echo & The Bunnymen, a dab of My Bloody Valentine, smear it across a Sleigh Bells CD, roll it up and smoke it…and there you have…Ringo Deathstarr.

The bands debut album Colour Trip is out Feb 14th in the Uk on Club AC30 Records. You can check out the video for the albums lead single ‘So high’ which is to be released Jan 31st on 7″ Vinyl & digital.
