Maybe its my love of everything Natalie Portman stars in, or maybe its my love of Darren Aronofsky’s unforgiving and intelligent filmaking that has got me all hot and bothered about his next project, Black Swan. Then again it might be because it looks amazing…

The film stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis as ballet dancers in a NYC production of Swan Lake. The production requires a dancer who can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace, and the Black Swan, who represents guile and sensuality. Nina (Portman) fits the White Swan role perfectly but Lily (Kunis) is the personification of the Black Swan. As the two  dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side with a recklessness that threatens to destroy her.

With a stella cast including Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel & Winona Ryder, a deep and sinister tone throughout and a backdrop that has surely pushed both lead actresses to their physical limit, Black Swan looks to be another crowing achievement in Darren Aronofsky’s portfolio.
