Where to start? Mr Bailey is an unstoppable force in music at the moment. With an extensive musical education through a variety of non traditional channels, no Brit school for Liam, just drunken conversations with guys old enough to have seen Hendrix play. He has worked with Salaam Remi (Amy Winehouse & Nas producer), has been nominated as a “One to Watch” by Q which included the recording of a Q session with them & racked up an impressive portfolio of gigs including high profile slots on various BBC introducing stages; And not to mention he is the voice of the latest Chase & Status single ‘Blind Faith’.
Liam’s raspy tones and retro R & B stylings are drenched in his influences, with different tracks re-calling influences as diverse as Lauryn Hill, Otis Reading, Oasis or Sam Cooke. He may be compared to similar contemporary male R&B artists such as David Jordan and Leon Jean Marie, but those are lazy/obvious comparisons. Whereas both Jordan and Marie seem like any other random singer that could have been fed through any reality tv contest, Liam’s life experiences and quest to find his own voice have lead him on a rich path to where he is now, a path you cant emulate over a 10 week televised period or set path of A & R development.
Liam is about to release his second EP this year ‘So Down, Cold’ through Lioness Records and it gives a great taste of his début album due to be released early next year. You can check out the lead single below as well as an excellent mini doc of Liam rummaging through records in his home town of Nottingham.
