From the director of ‘Man On Fire’ ‘Domino’ & ‘True Romance” Tony Scott comes ‘Unstoppable’. A fast paced drama about a runaway train carrying a cargo of toxic chemicals. Which put an engineer and his conductor in a race against time. They’re chasing the runaway train in a separate locomotive and need to bring it under control before it derails on a curve and causes a spill that will decimate a town.
With Denzel Washington in the lead role, with support from Chris Pine and the always excellent Rosario Dawson, it’s shaping up to be not half as lame as the description above makes it sound. The trailer depicts a cross between ‘Speed’ & ‘Training Day’, evil vehicle kicks off and causes havok, whilst Denzel puts a rookie through his paces as shit goes down on his first day.
Unstoppable is based on the “Crazy Eights” unmanned train incident in 2001. The train, led by CSX Locomotive #8888, rumbled on a 66-mile journey through northwest Ohio with no one at the controls, due to the air brake not being applied correctly. For two hours, the train sailed along at speeds up to 47 miles per hour until the crew of a second train coupled onto the runaway and slowly applied its brakes. Once #8888 was slowed down to a speed of 11 miles per hour, a CSX employee, Jon Hosfeld, ran alongside the train and climbed aboard, shutting down the locomotive
