Auditory Pleasures // #28

Here’s a look at some of the best new tracks which have been premiered this week.

‘Spanish Sahara’ was the first track previewed from Foals’ sophomore album at the beginning of the year. Deadboy’s rehash keeps things minimal to begin with but as the track progresses so does the beat, so much so that by the end of the song the sparseness of the original has been surpassed by the various club beats.

Sounding like a mush-up, Crystal Fighters’ ‘In The Summer’ glitches between electro and indie while flirting with plenty of unique sounds in between. The synth-laden sound combined with mixed vocals makes an immediate impact and doesn’t let up throughout the tracks duration. ‘In The Summer’ is a great preview of the band’s debut album, due out in September.

In a similar vein to last week’s Washed Out track this brand new material from Black Lips comes courtesy of Adult Swim’s current singles series. The track is a lo-fidelity, fuzzy sound comprising of guitar solo’s and shouted choruses as it stomps through it’s duration.

With vocals that sound somewhere between Morrissey and Elvis Costello it’s not difficult to see why The Magic Kids have gained quite a following with their over-indulgent even sickly-sweet sound. The track could not hint towards a ‘Summer’ sound more if it tried, the title, lyrics and overall sound of the track all suit a day of sunshine and warmth perfectly.
