Auditory Pleasures // #19

The weeks seem to be flying by as of late,, here’s another look at some of the tracks which have caught my ear over the past seven days.

Hot Chip’s cover of Shakira’s She Wolf could quite easily be a track of their own. Alexis Taylor’s falsetto vocals and Joe Goddard’s auto-tuned chorus make a great combination and are head and shoulders above the original. Unfortunately (or fortunately), looks-wise Shakira wins hands down, sorry lads.

So the third and final LCD Soundsystem album from James Murphy leaked through the week. Sad times for Murphy and the industry but good times for fans who would still have had a month of teasers until the album is released. Highlights are, as might be expected, plentiful. ‘I Can Change’ uses Murphy’s usual mix of electro blips and bleeps. For some strange reason I hear similarities with When In Rome’s ‘The Promise’. Just me?

After the let down of ‘Heartbeat Song’, ‘Struck Dumb’ is a fine return from the lads from Sunderland. After a couple of years below my radar it’s nice to hear something with some edge and gut from these guys. Hopefully their upcoming fourth (already?!) album won’t disappoint.

With Summer hopefully just around the corner I’m sure you’re with me when it comes to looking for some great upbeat tracks to while away the summer sunsets. Jamaica’s ‘I Think I Like U 2′ (which you can hear the original to here) has been remixed by Breakbot and now sounds even more 80′s and upbeat than it already did. Score.
