Auditory Pleasures // #18

Another week, another chance to guide you through some of the hottest tracks I’ve discovered.

Big Boi returns with a track which may just become the soundtrack to your summer. OK, perhaps this nice weather is going to my head and I’m being somewhat easily influenced but ‘Shutterbugg’ is a feel good track featuring Big Boi’s distinct vocals and style. The “back to life, back to reality” breakdown makes me smile every time.

Nas adds his own insight into Gil Scott-Heron’s ‘New York Is Killing Me’, taken from the legendary poet and musicians returning album I’m New Here. Nas’ vocals are delivered frantically in short sharp bursts, providing a sound at the other end of the spectrum compared to Scott-Heron’s delivery.

In a totally different direction come The Drums with their latest single ‘Forever and Ever Amen’, premièred by Zane Lowe this week. It’s, as you’d expect, three minutes of unashamed pop.

Diplo keeps as busy as ever, this time working with 21 year old Londoner Sunday Girl on a remix of her debut single ‘Four Floors’. Comparisons with the plethora of female solo artists from the UK over the past couple of years will no doubt be rife, expect to hear Ellie Goulding mentioned whenever you read anything more of Sunday Girl.
