Here’s my look at some of the best tracks I’ve found over the past week.
Somewhat sadly, Zola Jesus isn’t a tribute to the Godlike football skills of Gianfranco but is infact the alias of 20 year old American singer/songwriter/siren Nika Roza Danilova. ‘Night’ follows in the footsteps of it namesake, delivering darkness and mystery while Danilova’s voice shines in the distance offering a glimmer of light against the lurid backing.
Formerly Anatomy of a Ghost, Portugal. The Man have steadily been producing and releasing material since 2004. ‘The Deag Dog’ is a mix of indie, blues and soul which has really caught my ear and is taken from the bands upcoming album American Ghetto, which you can stream in full on the bands website now (see below).
Crystal Antlers hail from Long Beach, California, a fact that is obvious from the surf-pop vibe of their new track ‘Little Sister’. A more mellow approach than some of the bands previous material offers more accessibility but perhaps loses out on some of the raw edge of Tentacles material.

Foals finally made a much anticipated return this week with the first promo single to be taken from their upcoming new album titled Total Life Forever. ‘Spanish Sahara’ is the progression which was needed but probably not predicted by anyone. A more subtle sound which broods beneath the surface makes for an atmospheric listen.
