Auditory Pleasures // #12

Here’s my look at the week in music via my favourite tracks. A somewhat remix laden week which has seen some great rehashes of already brilliant tracks.

There’s no doubt in my mind that ‘Toxic’ is the best Britney Spears song ever (not that I know all her songs, honest…). Be honest though, it is a brilliant specimen of a pop song; probably due to the fact Bloodshy & Avant (Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg of Miike Snow) co-wrote the song. Yael Naim covered the track beautifully a few years back and now 16 Bit added their own dirty bassline to really mess with your head.

The anticipation surrounding Plastic Beach moved up a notch the second this track was premièred. ‘Superfast Jellyfish’ is the ’19-2000′ of 2010, catchy, raspy and ever so slightly cheesy, the track ensures it’ll be firmly implanted in your head for the foreseeable future.

Jakwob continues to build upon his credentials with another hypnotising remix, this time in the form of Kid Sisters’ ‘Daydreaming’. The added production to the track add an extra dimension, stripping down the over-produced original and slowing things down somewhat proves less is more.

Penguin Prison continues to throw out some interesting remixes, this time with the help of fellow NYC resident Theophilus London. The remix doesn’t shift too far from the original but flows perfectly between Goulding and London.
